Pro Bono

Halliwells continues to deliver on its commitment to pro bono work as evidenced by the Law Society's prestigious Regional Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year Award in 2005 and subsequent nominations every year since.

Melissa Worth, who is acting on a pro bono basis, has launched a legal battle on behalf of five cancer patients who want the right to top up their NHS treatment by privately funding an additional drug, Avastin which could save their lives. The firm has provided professional support to Manchester University's Law Centre. A number of solicitors - many of whom are newly qualified themselves - work with the students at the Centre. The initiative provides free legal advice to both locals and students. It gives law students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the legal world, helping to resolve genuine legal matters for fellow students, from problems with tenancy agreements to family concerns.

The firm also provides up to £2,500 worth of free legal advice per month to Cancer Research UK. Halliwells' offices have been visited by Attorney General Lord Goldsmith to show his appreciation for the firm's efforts.
